YouTube Embedded Video: Multiplication Rap

This video teaches the two multiplication facts with a rap to a group of students. Do you think this strategy will better help students to retain their multiplication facts better than traditional rote memorization? Should multiplication facts be taught to mastery or is it better to teach students how to simply come up with the correct answers? Please response with a comment.

edutopia Tip #4 Response: Think Globally

I presently teach in a low; socio-economical school, where most if not all of my students have limited or no assess to things world-wide. Teaching reading is very challenging due to their limited background knowledge on most content matter. I've used google earth with my students on several opportunities; earthquake in Haiti. We zoomed to Haiti and saw the devastation caused by the earthquake. we actually saw the fault line and actual people walking around. it was like being there. We (the students and myself) were astounded. Afterwards they had several chances to play around with it and they learned to navigate it without any help from me. Thanks. This was really wonderful, because it brought a part of the world to my kids and took my kids to Haiti to become apart of their experience.
